Whilst opening up to empathetic family and friends about our struggles is important and goes a long way, support from trained professionals is sometimes necessary to expedite further recovery and transformation.
Individual Therapy
Couples Therapy
Sole Session
For when you need:
You may be recommended more in-depth individual therapy depending on what comes to light from the sole session. In this case, you can continue therapy with us or go elsewhere, if you choose to have further therapy.
The initial step is to get in touch via the ‘contact us’ page, by phone or by email (info@mindbalm.co.uk), providing some background information about your reasons and goals for psychotherapy. You can provide as much or as little information as you wish. We will get back to you within 48 hours to arrange an initial consultation.
The initial consultation is a full session lasting 50 minutes where we can go into more depth about the issues you are bringing, as well as explore your hopes and expectations for therapy. It is an opportunity for you and your therapist to get a feel of each other and to both decide if you are suited to working together.
When you first get in touch, you will be offered a free introductory call lasting about 15 minutes before you proceed to book an initial consultation. It is an opportunity for us to get a better understanding of your needs from therapy, and for you to ask questions and address any practical concerns you might have about therapy. If we decide to proceed following that, we will then schedule the initial consultation.
Sessions typically occur weekly on a recurring day and time. However, there is some flexibility to have them more or less frequently over time. We recommend starting with weekly sessions to build the therapeutic relationship and increase the effectiveness of therapy.
The duration of therapy is unique to your goals and circumstances. Shorter time-limited counselling might be desirable for someone focused on dealing with a recent specific issue, like bereavement. Alternatively, you may want longer-term ‘open-ended’ therapy to address ongoing emotional challenges. Regular therapy sessions over a longer time frame enable work on a deeper level to bring about enduring change.
Our sessions are designed to be flexible. You may choose to have time-limited therapy lasting up to 12 sessions; or longer open-ended therapy that ends whenever you feel ready. Many of our clients attend therapy for 12 to 24 sessions, and some continue way beyond that. Others choose rapid (one-session) therapy when they just need a qualified professional to listen or provide perspective on a specific issue.
You are not committed to any fixed number of sessions and you decide the duration of therapy as you go along. We can review the length of the therapeutic process as we progress. Excluding sole consultations, we normally recommend a minimum of six sessions so that we have some time to establish an effective therapeutic relationship before reviewing progress.
All appointments must be cancelled at least 48 hours in advance or the full fee will be charged. Payment is required in advance (at least 24 hours prior to the session) by bank transfer.
In-person sessions are offered at 53 Davies Street, which is on the corner of Davies Street and Brook Street, diagonally across from Claridge’s Hotel. It is a short two-minute walk from London’s Bond Street Tube station. You will be greeted by the reception team who will direct you to the consulting room at the scheduled appointment time.
Sessions are strictly confidential. We are bound by the ethical code of confidentiality enforced by the BACP and we take relevant data protection steps to protect your privacy. In line with professional ethical guidelines, confidentiality may only be broken:
This is extremely rare and we will always endeavour to discuss it with you first, unless there are safeguarding issues that prevent this.
Integrative psychotherapy is an approach to therapy that is informed by several theoretical perspectives in psychotherapy, rather than focusing on one. Our particular practice of “integration” utilizes a few of the core therapeutic modalities – Psychodynamic, Existential, Humanistic and Transpersonal. Accordingly, we may look at the past including your childhood, in order to understand the relationships and events that have unconsciously shaped who you have become today. However, we are equally interested in how you are currently experiencing life, what meaning you make of it, as well as your aspirations for the future. Finally, where you practice a spiritual belief or faith, we will incorporate this into your treatment.
